Bomba Atomica (Taytelbomb)

I recently saw this release on Potter Auction. It's a Bomb Atomica by Eddy Taytelbaum, ca. 1970. A cylindrical wooden block is locked inside a tube with a metal magic wand, which then penetrates the wand. .

At first glance, I thought, "Aha, an easy-to-model prop." Then I watched a quick demo from our friend Martin, and I was shocked.

I was shocked that I'm not seeing the better method I envisioned. I can use polar magnets for the levitation instead of the obvious not dropping the block all the way move.  So, I'm definitely revising this trick with a better method. I just need help with the theme and shape of the tube, the wooden block, and why I would insert a wand in it, etc. Any help will be appreciated
