Outline of the creative process - Dan Harlan

  1. Acquire Knowledge: Study, read, learn, ask questions, and strive to know as much as possible about your area of focus.
  2. Prepare: Decide on a specific area or problem to focus on, gather all the necessary materials and resources.
  3. Relax: Make time and create a space to clear your mind, eliminate distractions and allow yourself to focus.
  4. Play: Have fun, be silly, approach the problem in a playful manner, let your mind wander and act like a child.
  5. Be aware: Pay attention to your thoughts and inner dialogue, question why you continue to do things the same way, and challenge yourself to break the rules.
  6. Accept: Embrace the strange, weird, and seemingly nonsensical ideas that come to mind.
  7. Record: Keep a journal, notebook or recorder with you to capture all the ideas that come to mind.
  8. Evaluate - After generating all the ideas, you can begin to evaluate and sift through them to make sense of any seemingly nonsensical or foolish ideas. Analyze and test their potential.
  9. Implement - Take the ideas that show promise and develop them further. Continuously play with and refine them.

Keep in mind that this process can be repeated as many times as necessary. Don't expect immediate success and remember that it takes time to break free from preconceived structures and patterns of thinking.
